He was on drugs.
That’s what troopers based in Homer say about Jeremy Austin, 36, of Binghamton.
They say Austin was driving a tractor-trailer that crossed from the northbound to southbound lanes of 81 at Marathon Monday morning.
His rig hit one coming at him.
The other driver went to a Binghamton hospital with what were described by police as non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers say they found a gram of crystal methamphetamine when they checked Austin’s truck. He faces charges including felony vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and drug possession.
Austin was arraigned in Marathon Town Court and sent to the Cortland County Jail awaiting bail.
The accident happened a little after 6 am Monday and took about 5 hours to clear.
Traffic backed up for miles and clogged village streets.
