$150,000 In Funding for Lifelong Announced by Assemblymember Kelles

Anna Kelles of the New York State Assembly announced on Tuesday that $150,000 in funding was secured for Lifelong, a community center for adults aged 50 and over.

The funds are being put towards efficient and enhanced renovations for Lifelong’s community center, such as new windows and LED lights. Alongside these wellness upgrades come ease-of-access technology upgrades, including upgrades to the Lifelong phone server, computers, and audio-visual system. An outdoor pavilion for events and other programs will also be constructed, as well as refreshing the front entrance with improved accessibility.

“We are incredibly grateful for this funding”, said Liza Burger, Executive Director of Lifelong. “Creating a more energy-efficient, and welcoming building and grounds will allow us to better serve older adults in Tompkins County in a way that is more sustainable and accessible into the future. We are eager to get started!

Lifelong, founded in 1952, offers many activities and resources that adults aged 50 or older can enjoy and benefit from, like free tax service, mobility devices, and Medicare counseling. They have focused on bettering accessibility over the past year, offering a scholarship program, improving its HVAC and hot water, as well as giving members $250 in credit towards classes and activities.
