The SUNY Cortland Women's Lacrosse team will host an NCAA Regional Tournament this weekend at TC3. The games were moved to the Dryden campus due to Graduation ceremonies being held at the Stadium Complex on Campus. The Red Dragons will meet Redlands (Ca) at 11:30 Saturday morning in the first of two games, with Colby and Williams squaring off in the second game at 2:30pm. The Saturday winners will meet in the regional final on Sunday at 1pm for the right to advance to the Final Four. Cortland comes into the game Saturday with a 20-0 record
The time has also been announced for the Red Dragons Baseball team's first game at the NCAA Regional at Newark's Colburn Park tomorrow. The Red Dragons will play Castleton State at 1:15 tomorrow afternoon.
SUNY Cortland senior Rebecca Studin (Ithaca) has earned the Elite 89 award for the 2014 NCAA Div. III Women's Golf Championship. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 89 championships across three divisions. Studin is a sport management major with a 4.08 cumulative grade point average (converted to 3.97 on a 4.0 scale for the award) prior to the 2014 spring semester. She is the fourth Cortland student-athlete to earn an Elite 89 honor in the last three years, along with 2012 recipients Mike Tota (men's lacrosse), Jamie Flood (women's lacrosse) and Zachary Badanes (baseball).
Studin was presented the award on Monday night, May 12, at a banquet held prior to the NCAA Div. III Championships. She is an individual qualifier at the national championship and will be one of 111 golfers competing at the four-day tournament May 13-16 at the Mission Inn Resort & Golf Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
In Minor League Baseball, Syracuse fell to Columbus 5-4 on a walk-off double in the 9th. Syracuse is at Toledo tonight.
