Minor League Baseball had its opening day in the region yesterday. A crowd of just under 6,700 saw the Syracuse Chiefs lose to the Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees 4-1 yesterday. The Binghamton Mets fell to Akron 7-1 in their opener last night. Both series continue today.

In SUNY Cortland Sports action today, the Softball team is at Oneonta for a doubleheader while the Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams begin a two-day run at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton.

The Marathon Boys and Girls Outdoor Track and Field teams swept Lansing and Union Springs yesterday. Daniel Harden won the 400 Meter Dash and Long Jump and Allison Eaton won the 100 Meter Dash for the Olympians.

In the AHL tonight, Albany is at Syracuse and Binghamton Travels to Rochester.

One time Cornell University defenseman Doug Murray, now with the NHL's Montreal Canadians, has been suspended for three games by the league for an illegal hit to the head on Michael Kostka of the Tampa Bay Lightning, The suspension will cost Murray 23,000 dollars in salary.
