The Syracuse Men's Basketball team won their first ACC road game last night. The Orange got 17 points from CJ Fair en route to a 72-52 win over Virginia Tech. Tyler Ennis chipped in with 15 points and 7 assists.Jerami Grant scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds and Trevor Cooney add 11 points. The Orange are 15-0, 2-0 in the ACC and will host North Carolina Saturday at Noon. Our coverage begins at 11:30 with the pregame show.
The SUNY Cortland Men's and Women's Basketball teams both won last night at New Paltz. the Women beat the Hawks 66-53 to raise their SUNYAC record to 3-0. Meghan Touhey led the Red Dragons with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Grace Williamson scored 15 points and Caysea Cohen returned to the lineup, after missing the William Smith game with the Flu, and scored 12 points and added 4 rebounds. The Cortland Men held off the Hawks 72-69, The Red Dragons have won 3 straight, after winning their first four games then losing their next three to start the season, and are 2-1 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons used a balanced offensive attack, with Lamard Herron leading the way with 16 points and 6 assists. Kevin McMahon scored 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds and TJ Hefele, Blair Estarfaa and Garen Spendjian contributed 10 points apiece. Both Cortland teams are 7-3 and will host Buffalo State Friday night and Fredonia State Saturday Afternoon at Corey Gym.
The SUNY Cortland Women's Hockey team lost their first game following their holiday break. the Red Dragons fell to # 10 Amherst College 4-0. Freshman goaltender Kelly Farinella made 35 saves for Cortland.
The New York State Sportswriters Association has named their "Class B" All-State football team. Homer Offensive Lineman Anthony Basile is a Second-Team Offense selection and WR/RB Jayden Gavidia was a third-Team Offense choice. On Defense, Honorable Mention went to Defensive Back Conner Simonetta and Linebacker Chris Brown. Not on the list was Homer Running Back Alec Bush, despite racking up over 1,300 yards of Offense and 15 Touchdowns while turning the ball over just once in 2013.
