Beleaguered Jets QB Mark Sanchez has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder and, according to Dr. James Andrews, needs surgery to repair it. Sanchez says he'll make his decision to have it immediately or try to rehab the shoulder enough to play this season then have the surgery.
The weather reeked havoc with local sports yesterday ... many high schools either canceled events and practices or moved them indoors due to both storms and the high heat index. The SUNY Cortland Men's Soccer and Field Hockey matches at Ithaca College and the home Women's Tennis meet with Oswego were all postponed. At TC3, the Women's Soccer team was leading Niagara Community College 4-0 in the first half when weather stopped play and the Men's match between the two schools never got started.
The one collegiate event that did take place yesterday was the Women's Volleyball match between TC3 and Corning Community College ... and Corning swept it 3 sets to none.
Congratulations to Cincinnatus High grad Bailey Rutan, now a Women's Soccer player at Morrisville State, for being Chosen the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Co-Athlete Of the Week (with Teammate Angela Marriott) and the ECAC Division III Upstate Offensive Player Of The Week. Rutan scored two goals for the Mustangs last week, and both were game-winners, in wins over Southern Vermont in overtime and Wells College.
