The First Round of the NFL draft was held last night, and Ryan Nassib is still available. The former SU Quarterback was expected to be drafted by the Buffalo Bills, and his former Coach Doug Marrone. The Bills, instead, chose QB E.J. Manuel from Florida State. The Giants took Orange Offensive Tackle Jason Pugth with their first round choice and the Jets took Cornerback Dee Milliner from Alabama with the 9th Pick, and Defensive Tackle Sheldon Richardson out of Missouri with the 13th pick, which the received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Darelle Revis trade.
The SUNY Cortland Women's Lacrosse team defeated Nazareth 17-4 in a non-league game yesterday. Senior Maria DiFato became the second player to reach 300 career points in the contest (Lindsay Abbott has 441) by tallying 3 goals an an assist, and Freshman Erica Geremia scored 4 times and added an assist, and her 93 points sets a new record for points in a season by a Freshman (Abbott 89 in 2009). Cortland will host Fredonia State Saturday at Noon in a game which will decide the SUNYAC's regular season champion and post-season tournament host.
Today, The SUNY Cortland Softball team is at Brockport for a twin bill starting at 3pm. The Red Dragons sit a game behind the Golden Eagles in the league headed into the final weekend of the regular season.
The TC3 Softball team swept Jefferson C.C. 7-0 and 10-2 yesterday. The Panthers Baseball team fell twice to Jamestown C.C. 3-0 and 12-1 yesterday.
Checking High School Sports from Thursday, Boys Lacrosse: Homer over New Hartford 15-2 and Westhill over Tully 10-1. In Girls Lacrosse it was CBA over Cortland 17-2. In Baseball, Cortland beat Bishop Ludden 5-4, CBA beat Homer 6-0, Dryden beat Marathon 9-8, Fabius-Pompey beat Weedsport 11-1, Stockbridge Valley beat DeRuyter 5-4 and Port Byron beat Lafayette 12-4. In Boys Tennis it was Homer over ES-M 5-2.
