The Syracuse Men's Basketball team defeated Seton Hall 75-63 yesterday afternoon in their first Big East tournament game. James Southerland scored 20 points, Brandon Trische added 17, C.J. Fair tallied 16 with 8 rebounds and Michael Carter-Williams dished out a tournament record 14 assists. Up next for the Orange is a rematch with Pitt in the Quarterfinals ... Pregame coverage begins at 2pm on Oldies 101.5 ... with tipoff expected about 2:30. The Orange, minus Southerland at the time, lost by 10 to the Panthers in Pittsburgh this season.

Cincinnati knocked off Providence 61-44, St. Johns fell to Villanova 66-53 and Notre Dame got by Rutgers 69-61 Rutgers in the late game yesterday. The other matchups today have Cincinnati playing Georgetown in the early game, then "Cuse/Pitt for a date in tomorrow night's 7pm semi. Tonight, it's Villanova taking on Louisville and Notre Dame battling Marquette ... winners in those two meet in the 9pm semi tomorrow night.

The 7 Catholic schools who will play under the Big East name next year met yesterday in New York and reports say they'll announce new members in the next 7 to 10 days. Xavier, Butler and Creighton are favorites, with St. Louis and Dayton also considered possibilities. Richmond has an outside shot of getting in.

Point Guard Jesse Winter of the SUNY Cortland Men's Basketball team has earned Second Team All East and Second Team ECAC Upstate NY honors. Winter finished with averages of 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds a game in a 24-5 season for the Red Dragons. Winter's career 1,525 points set a career scoring record at Cortland and the 24 wins tied a program best mark.

The # 1 SUNY Cortland Men's Lacrosse team got a goal from Doug Meehan with 1:50 left in overtime to squeeze by Stevens Tech 12-11 yesterday.

The # 3 SUNY Cortland Women's Lacrosse team fell to # 2 Salisbury 13-7 yesterday. Maria DiFato scored 5 of the 7 Cortland goals.

The SUNY Cortland Softball team swept William Peace (North Carolina) 16-7 and 16-6 in 6 innings yesterday to even their record at 4-4 on the season,  

Finally, the SUNY Cortland Woman's Golf team lost to Denison by just 5 strokes in a 36-hole, 2-day duel.

The TC3 Men's Lacrosse team beat Cayuga Community College 10-3 yesterday. Homer High grad Mike Hartnett scored 6 of the Panthers 10 goals, fellow Trojan alum Austin Recor added 2 goals and Cortland High Grad Chad Timmons added a goal and an assist. The Panthers are 1-1 on the season.
