The Syracuse Men's Basketball team will will head to Pittsburgh this Saturday for a date with the Panthers ... as they look to rebound from their first Big East loss of the season ... the game starts at Noon Saturday, with Orange pregame at 11:30am.
Syracuse announced yesterday that, despite leaving the Big East at the end of this season, they will continue to play St. Johns for the next two years. The teams will meet at Madison Square Garden next season and the Carrier Dome in 2014.
The TC3 Women's Basketball team got 12 points from Meghan Ideman (Moravia) and 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists from Audrey-Kate Ordway (Dryden) en route to a 51-47 win in overtime against Jefferson Community College. The Men's Basketball team also won 72-60 over Jefferson Community College and are in first place in the Mid State Athletic Conference with a 7-1 record.
The SUNY Cortland Women's Softball team is ranked 24th in the National Fast pitch Coaches Association preseason poll. Cortland is coming off it's 4th straight 40-win season and it's fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012.
Checking High School Sports from yesterday: In Boys Basketball: Cortland beat Oneida 77-35, Tully defeated Fabius-Pompey 62-51 and Lafayette defeated Onondaga 51-46. In Girls Basketball: Whitney Point over Marathon 53-44. In Girls Volleyball: ES-M over Cortland 3-0 and Tully over CBA 3-2. In Bowling: The Fulton Boys took 2 of 3 points and the Fulton Girls swept Homer.
Andy Pettite will not pitch for Team USA at the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Manager Joe Torre cited the 40 year old's recent battles with injuries, including the broken ankle suffered last season, as the reason.
