The Syracuse Men's Basketball team defeated Rutgers 78-53 in the Big East opener for both schools ... The win gave Coach Jim Boeheim his 903rd for his career and placed him ahead of Bob Knight and alone in second place in all-time wins behind Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski. Brandon Triche scored 25 for the Orange, C.J. Fair added 15 and Michael Carter-Williams netted 12 with 10 assists. As for the Scarlet Knights, their 5 game winning streak was snapped with the loss.

Syracuse will travel to the University of South Florida for their next matchup on Sunday. The game starts at noon with Orange Pregame at 11:30. U.S.F. beat Central Florida 66-56 in a non-conference game last night.

In other Big East games last night: Providence fell to Louisville 80-62, St. Johns lost to Villanova 98-86 in overtime and Seton Hall squeaked by Depaul 73-72.

In other area College Men's Hoops, it was Dominican over Lemoyne 56-51 and Bucknell over Cornell 72-56. In Women's Basketball, Lemoyne defeated Mansfield 71-60.

Add Philadelphia and Kansas City to the list of NFL teams showing interest in S.U. Football Coach Doug Marrone .. who reportedly has interviews for the vacant NFL jobs in Buffalo and Cleveland coming up this week. Marrone has NFL experience, including two years as the Defensive Coordinator of the New Orleans Saints prior to taking the job with Syracuse.
