The Cortland County Business Development Corporation has approved a 75 thousand dollar loan for a new manufacturing business that is setting up shop in Cortland.
Cortland Plastics International is moving into a portion of the former Impact Sports building on south Main Street in Cortland.
Yesterday the B-D-C board approved a 75 thousand dollar loan to help with the purchase of equipment for the new company, which hopes to create 47 jobs. Cortland Plastics will manufacture blow-molded plastic bottles, as well as some food-rated packaging, and health and beauty aids packaging.
Cortland Plastics is headed up by Patrick Dessein, a native of France. Dessein has been involved with managing marketing and sales efforts for European-based companies.
While the B-D-C has pledged money, Dessein has also applied for another 10 thousand dollar grant from a dedicated fund county lawmakers created last year to help defray costs associated with start up companies. Dessein previously applied for state grant money through the city of Cortland.
Among other contracts, Cortland Plastics is looking to partner with Marietta packaging to eventually supply Marietta with the small shampoo bottles and other items used to package products for the hotel, personal care, pharmaceutical, and dairy industries.
