Def Leppard's Viv Campbell Celebrating Cancer Remission
Def Leppard guitarist Viv Campbell has reported that his cancer is once again in remission. While he and the band have been out on tour with Kiss, Campbell has been undergoing a new progressive form of chemotherapy on the road, and posted on Facebook on July 31st: "I’m currently in Boston and I did a scan on Tuesday morning. The scan shows that the cancer is in remission. Great news, but I’m trying not to get too excited about it, as I heard that same phrase late last year -- only to be disappointed again a few months after when it returned."
Campbell added: "The plan is to do a stem-cell transplant as soon as the tour is finished. However, to keep me in remission, my doctors have recommended that I do another, third round of the chemo, so I’m back in hospital, all hooked up and doing my rock ‘n’ roll drugs. Keef would be most proud!"
Back in June, Campbell revealed via his Facebook page that he was then undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma, posting, "My diagnosis was Hodgkin's Lymphoma and six months of chemotherapy is the prescribed treatment. I'm about 2 months in and feeling rather spiffy, all things considered. Hodgkin's has an over 80 percent cure rate, so by my reckoning, if you're going to have a cancer, Hodgie's is the one to have!"
Viv Campbell admitted to us that despite the often slick live and studio touches of Def Leppard's tunes, he's always preferred stripping things back to their basic core: "I've always had an affinity for organic music. Whether it was blues or organic pop, or soul, or whatever. Which may seem strange coming from a guy who plays guitar with Def Leppard, who are probably the most produced band in the world."
