Loverboy Returning With First Original Studio Album In Eight Years
Loverboy is back with its first all new original album since 2007, with Unfinished Business set for release on July 15th. Ultimate Classic Rock guitarist Paul Dean explained that sessions for the album were a world away from the studio-heavy months spent recording 1985’s Lovin’ Every Minute Of It, saying, "We practically lived at Little Mountain Studios for six months, but it’s a new world. I do everything on my laptop now. Way better!"
Dean went on to say that it was the band’s online community that voted Unfinished Business as the album’s title, and that the entire project is a salute to them and released, "to show our appreciation to the fans who have supported us all this time. I guess one day we’ll have to stop calling the new album Unfinished Business. It sounds pretty much complete to me. And it only took us 40 years!"
Frontman Mike Reno told us that although Loverboy’s early videos were staples at the launch of MTV, as the band and the production of the clips got bigger, Loverboy had to push back to keep its integrity: "Well, what we did say every time was, ‘We want performance in these videos’ -- every time. And after a while, the ball got big, the band became this huge entity. We said, ‘We still want. . . ‘ -- they said, ‘We don’t really care what you want.’ And we’d say, ‘Well, here’s what’s going to happen: We’re going to play live, and if you wanna put some other things in there, we’ll consider doing them, but you’re definitely not going to tell us what to do -- or you’re going to have an empty stage.’ And we weren’t cocky about it, but we weren’t into getting pushed around, either. ‘Cause, we thought, ‘I don’t wanna watch a video of a bunch of guys dancin’ around the whole time.'"
