Styx Guitarist Thinks Three Act Summer Tour Might Be Most Successful Yet
Styx guitarist J.Y. Young is pretty impressed with the way the current Soundtrack Of Summer Tour with Foreigner and former Eagles guitarist Don Felder has been gelling so far. The tour is criss-crossing the continent, with Felder opening the shows with a clutch of Eagles favorites, followed by Styx and/or Foreigner, who alternate the closing spot from show to show. Styx has come to perfect the double and triple bill summer tour, hitting the road over the years with such heavyweights as Boston, Journey, Peter Frampton, REO Speedwagon, Def Leppard, .38 Special, Ted Nugent, and Night Ranger, among others
J.Y. Young feels that among all the various bills that Styx has played on in recent years; the lineup with Foreigner and Don Felder might just be the one to tip the scales: "We’ve had good luck having an opening acts that’ll sell some tickets in its own right. And then we’ve kind of started with Foreigner back in 2006. So, recently, Tommy (Shaw) did some work on Felder’s record, so there’s a good connection, and Don’s being managed by our manager, so it kind of, it makes really good sense.
And the whole idea that he’s an obvious contributor on the writing side of the Eagles and when he goes out to play his solo shows, he does lots of Eagles songs. I mean, it has the potential to maybe be the most successful of anything we’ve done with us in a co-headline position, anyway."
