Steve Miller Releases 40th Anniversary Live Version Of 'The Joker' Album
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Steve Miller Band’s The Joker collection, Miller has released digital live versions of every song on the album, according to Rolling Stone. Miller, who's issued the tracks via iTunes and, spoke about the tracks, saying, "When several friends and colleagues reminded me that it was the 40th birthday of The Joker album, I smiled -- and started playing the whole album’s songs live again. And at the end of the last tour realized we had a great new record that we wanted to share with our fans. We hope you like it as much as we did playing and recording it."
Highlighhts on the set include the title track, "Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma," "Come On In My Kitchen," "Your Cash Ain't Nothin' But Trash," and "Evil," among others.
Although the new live version of The Joker is being released digitally, Steve Miller told us that it’s hardly his favorite medium for listening to music: "I prefer to listen to music on vinyl. And when digital first showed up. I thought it was really great, ‘cause it was cleaner and there wasn’t tape hiss, and there wasn’t the crackily sound of the vinyl records. And I was over at a musicologist’s house -- a guy that had 10,000 singles. We sat around four about two hours listening to old 45’s -- the worst vinyl there is. Then, we were looking for one song, and he said, ‘Well, I don’t have it on vinyl, I have it on CD' and we put the CD on and it was, like, thin and transparent compared to the vinyl. So, vinyl’s like a really juicy steak."
