New Chicago Album Coming Out July 4th
Chicago fans are going to have a happy holiday coming up with the July 4th release of Now: Chicago XXXVI (36). The set was recorded all over the country using the Chicago’s portable studio to track the songs on the road in rehearsal halls, banquet spaces, and hotel rooms. The album marks the band’s first original release since 2008 when the official version of their then long-unreleased 1993 album Stone Of Sisyphus XXXII (22) was finally issued to critical acclaim.
The new album will be released in on CD, along with a variety of high end audio formats -- including MP3 and Wav -- as well as a deluxe package with containing the CD, a t-shirt, poster, coffee mug, and a high quality download.
Over 35 years since the accidental suicide of the band's spiritual center -- the late great guitarist Terry Kath -- we asked keyboardist Robert Lamm what he thinks the future would've held for Kath and Chicago had he lived: "If he had gotten sober, and if he had lived -- (laughs) and if we had all been sober -- I think that, y'know, it could've been the sky's the limit. He passed away, really, kind of not long after 'If You Leave Me Now' was a hit. He respected it -- but he didn't want to do it (laughs) again, y'know? And I think that if we had continued together as a band we may have, y'know, we may have really continued to break new ground. But the other thing that may have happened is that, if we had continued down the path of doing ballads, I think he would've gone off and either done solo stuff or put together another band."
Chicago will next perform on April 22nd in Bismarck, North Dakota at the Bismarck Civic Center Arena.
The band kicks off its 21-date summer tour with REO Speedwagon on July 31st in Concord, California at Concord Pavilion.
