Paul McCartney Calls On Fans To Help Create New Video
Paul McCartney is enlisting the help off his fans to make the second video from his recent album, New. The tune, "Save Me," is the album's opening number and to many fans' ears sounds like an updated Wings track, which would've been right at home on 1978's London Town or the following year's Back To The Egg collection. "Save Me" is New's third single followed by the title track -- which had no video, and "Queenie Eye," which featured a star-studded clip featuring the former Beatle at London's legendary Abbey Road Studios.
McCartney's team posted an open call to fans on, which reads in part:
We would like you to pick a line or two from Paul's song 'Save Us' (or pick every line if you want!) and take a photo of yourself with it. You could write the words on a piece of paper; make something with the words on; do something on your computer - remember, the more creative your photo, the more chance you have of being included! We will pick our favorites and put them into a new video for the song.
We will post your 'Save Us' video here on soon so remember to keep checking back!
1. Pick as many lines as you wish from the lyrics below - including (Guitar Riff), (Instrumental) and (End) - and take a photo of yourself with it (one line per photo, please!).
2. Post your photo on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #whatsnewPaul.
3. Please post your photo by midday (UK time) Tuesday, April 22nd.
The selected photos will be used in a new fan video for Paul's track 'Save Us'. Your photos should be either be landscape or square. No portrait photos, please!
Please note that by submitting your photo(s) you are allowing MPL to use your photograph in a fan video for Paul's song 'Save Us' and for promotional purposes.
Paul McCartney says that he's always preferred straight-ahead performance videos than over-the-top big budget clips: "You suddenly had to be a short filmmaker as well, and not all of us liked it. I must say occasionally it was like, 'oh my God,' and the process was kind of quite wearing. Y'know, you'd kind of farm it out to three or four directors who you thought were hot, who would come back with 'I see you. . .' -- it was a little bit like a comedy sketch -- 'I see you on a mountain top in Tibet wearing nothing but a loin cloth. The sun god shines down. . .' And you're going 'Oh no -- next one!"
