Premiering tonight (April 8th) on PBS' Great Performances is The Dave Clark Five And Beyond - Glad All Over. The documentary focuses on the Dave Clark Five who was the second act of the British Invasion to hit America. Dave Clark, who in the years following the group's split has become one of Britain's richest music moguls, has cherry picked the projects in which the DC5 music and footage could be used in -- with Glad All Over marking the first time he's agreed to a full-length documentary of the band, who landed in America in March 1964 -- one month following the "Fab Four."
Dave Clark told us that the band’s secret weapon was their lead singer, songwriter, and keyboardist, the late great Mike Smith: "He didn’t realize how good he was. I think I say that in the film. He had an amazing talent, Mike. I mean, he studied classical piano originally, so he was a musician. His dad got very disillusioned when he got his first job in a pub (laughs), y’know? But, it, it worked. He had a great voice, and he had a great look, y’know? April 11th at 10 p.m. ET.
