Bruce Springsteen, Glenn Frey And Michael Stipe Tapped As 2014 Rock Hall Inductors
The 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seems to be yet another year in which the inductors just might steal the thunder away from the inductees. Rolling Stone announced that, as expected, on April 10th at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, Bruce Springsteen will induct the E Street Band into the Hall. R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe -- a close friend of Kurt Cobain -- will do the honors for Nirvana. Tom Morello will induct Kiss, Glenn Frey -- who got his major break as apart of Linda Ronstadt’s backing band -- will salute her at the ceremony. Ronstadt will not be attending the event, but "a unique tribute will be staged to the singer featuring Stevie Nicks, Carrie Underwood, Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, and Bonnie Raitt."
Questlove of the Roots will salute Hall & Oates, Coldplay's Chris Martin will induct Peter Gabriel, and Peter Asher, of Peter & Gordon and record production fame, will do the honors for his friends, the late Beatles manager Brian Epstein and early Rolling Stones manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham. The inductor for Cat Sevens has yet to be announced.
As is the case in every year he appears as a presenter, Bruce Springsteen's induction of the E Street Band is sure to steal the show next week. Back in 1999 when he was inducted into the Hall, "The Boss" singled out every member -- past and present -- of the E Street Band for special commendation -- including his wife, Patti Scialfa: "Uh. . . Patti Scialfa… She busted the boys club (laughs), big time. It went like this, ‘Okay, fellas. . . There´s gonna be a woman in the band. We need someone to sing all of the high parts. How complicated can it get?’ (Laughter, applause) Well, a nice paparazzi photo of me in my jockey shorts on a balcony in Rome. . . 10 of the best years of my life… Evan, Jesse, Sam -- three children genealogically linked to the E Street Band tell the rest of the story (applause). Everybody wants to know how I feel about the band… Hell, I married one of 'em! Thank you baby. You hit all the high notes. You’re ‘Tougher Than The Rest.’"
An edited version of the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air on May 31st at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
