Michael McDonald & Toto Teaming Up For Joint Summer Run
Toto and Michael McDonald are teaming up for a 21-date North American summer tour. The trek kicks off on August 2nd in Grand Ronde, Oregon at the Spirit Mountain Casino and winds down on September 7th in Newport News, Virginia at the Ferguson Center For The Arts. The team-up isn’t the case of a promoter dreaming up how to fill auditoriums and sheds for a one-off summer run -- these guys actually share a mutual history.

Back in 1972 it was future Toto drummer Jeff Pocaro that extended an invitation for McDonald to join Steely Dan; in 1977, Toto keyboardist David Paich arranged horns and strings on the Doobie Brothers' Livin' On The Fault Line, and Toto’s Mike Porcaro, Jeff Porcaro, and Steve Lukather collaborated with McDonald on his 1982 solo debut If That's What It Takes.

McDonald is eagerly anticipating the shows, saying, "I so look forward to the dates I'll play with Toto this Summer. Not only because they're old friends but also because they're one of the most talented and significant American bands."

Toto's Steve Porcaro added: "I can’t wait to get out on the road with Michael McDonald and his band. There is some deep history between us and it’s always a great hang. Michael surrounds himself with the best people, the crowds are great, and I for one, never tire of hearing his amazing band play and hearing those classic songs sung by one of my all time favorites."
Toto's Steve Lukather explained that the reason that Toto doesn't play more domestic dates ultimately boils down to dollars and cents: "We haven't really worked the U.S. in all fairness. Y'know, we got beat up so bad and then we just decided, 'y'know what man. . .' And the offers that we were getting everywhere else in the world were huge! So, y'know, you go where people like you. And they've kept us so busy that, we didn't purposely turn our backs on (the States), but there's a big difference between making a quarter of a million dollars a night and making thirty grand a night, y'know what I mean?"
