'80s icons Pat Benatar and Rick Springfield have announced the first nine dates of their joint summer tour. The duo kicks off the tour on June 29th at Raleigh, North Carolina’s Red Hat Amphitheatre, and as of now, wraps up on July 25th in Saratoga, California at the Mountain Winery.
The pair goes back a ways, with their careers criss-crossing in the early-1980’s when they both were at the peak of their polarity both on the charts and on MTV. Musically, the Benatar camp actually played an important part in Springfield success with Benatar’s guitarist and band leader — and now husband, Neil Giraldo — played the solo on Springfield’s solo chart-topper to date, "Jessie’s Girl."
Pat Benatar told us that persistence and a firm belief in one's art is fundamental in creating and maintaining a career in rock: "Sometimes you're up against a brick wall, and you have really good intentions, and you just can't get there, y'know? That's why it's not plumbing (laughs), y'know? That's why it's art. So you have to go with the ebb-and-flow that sometimes, those are the kinds of records you have to make, and then every once in a while you get lucky, and you actually get one -- you know, the intention that you wanted to do actually comes to fruition."
