Paul Simon And Sting Pushed To Incorporate Each Other's Bands Into Joint Tour
The Paul Simon and Sting tour now on the road is changing the rules of how two artists can perform together. A substantial part of each night's show features the pair guesting on each other's classic material, with their separate bands cross-pollinating which makes for one of the hottest shows running today.
Throughout the show, both Simon and Sting team up on each other's tunes -- both deep catalogue cuts and hits -- including Sting's "Brand New Day," "Fields Of Gold," "Love Is The Seventh Wave," "Fragile," and "Every Breath You Take," along with Simon's "The Boy The The Bubble," "The Boxer," "Mother And Child Reunion," "Late In The Evening," and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." The pair has also taken to performing the Everly Brothers' "When Will I Be Loved" as a tribute to the recently departed Phil Everly.
Paul Simon told us that he and Sting worked hard to incorporate each other's songs, styles and bands into one cognizant show -- rather than play into the standard co-headliner type of tour that plays the circuit these days: "We said from the beginning that we really had to do, y'know, at least eight songs together; like a significant amount of songs. So that the sound sort of keeps, it keeps sort of changing in sort of 25-to-35 minute intervals with duets in between. And the band members melding with each other during the set. And I, I think that will continue to happen through the whole tour. And by the time we end up that we will be a much more integrated unit than we are now."
