Ringo Starr Says Beatles Special To Feature Reunion With Paul McCartney
Ringo Starr finally set the record straight regarding his upcoming performance with Paul McCartney. The two surviving Beatles will tape their reunion on Monday night (January 27th) for the CBS Grammy Awards Beatles tribute show, The Night That Changed America. The star-studded gala will air on February 9th at 8 p.m. -- 50 years to the day and hour that the Beatles made their debut appearance in America on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Ringo Starr told Access Hollywood: "To celebrate the 50 years since we landed in New York in February (1964), they are putting on a big show on Monday and we will be doing it there."
McCartney and Ringo's joint performance marks the pair's first live team-up since McCartney's surprise appearance at New York's Radio City Music Hall during Ringo's 70th birthday concert.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will each perform on CBS' 36th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 26th). In addition to the performances, John Lennon and George Harrison's respective widows, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, will appear as Grammy presenters. On behalf of the "Fab Four," McCartney, Ringo, Yoko, and Olivia will appear together and accept the 2014 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
McCartney biographer Christopher Sanford told us that throughout the 1970's, the Beatles kept close tabs on each other's respective work -- with John Lennon and Paul McCartney never missing an opportunity to pour over and analyze one another's solo albums thoroughly: "John always critiqued Paul's albums, either in public or between the two of them. And I found that one of the most poignant aspects of the whole '70s, y'know, relationship -- or non-relationship. They always deconstructed each other's records. They had to have the latest album immediately shipped to them from the other party.

And they would often do these very minute sort of deconstructions of each track."
