The Allman Brothers Band Announces 2014 'March Madness' Run
Tickets go on sale on January 10th for the Allman Brothers Band's 2014 "March Madness" run at New York City's Beacon Theater. As it stands now, the band will play 10 nights between March 7th and 22nd -- with more shows expected to be added should the initial dates sell out. The Allmans' Beacon dates are: March 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 19th, 21st, and 22nd.
Bandleader Gregg Allman told Rolling Stone that the shows always keep the band on its toes, explaining, "Spontaneous things still happen. Going through the motions would be a real bore. I know a band that plays the same songs in the same order, they even say the same s*** at the same time every night. But, no, we’re all still real into it."
Allman is unsure if bassist Oteil Burbridge will be making the Beacon dates having recently joined Zac Brown Band. He went on to say that the scarcity of Allman Brothers Band shows tend to make each gig an historic occasion: "These last few years, we do the Beacon and then we do one month on the road in the summertime and that’s about it. And then everybody goes off to their own respective solo bands. It's getting more seldom that we get together, you know? It makes you really look forward to it."
Gregg Allman says that simply put, the Beacon is the Allmans' home away from home: "This place is, I've learned so much here, and have had so many good times here -- some of 'em were kind of rough, but most of 'em were just fine, just wonderful. And this means a lot to the Brothers, because we love this place, I'm sure, as many other musicians do, also."
The Allman Brothers Band will next perform on January 10th at Atlanta's Fox Theatre at the All My Friends: Celebrating The Songs & Voice Of Gregg Allman tribute concert.
