Paul McCartney Duets With Jimmy Fallon On 'SNL'
Paul McCartney appeared on Saturday Night Live on December 21st making a comedic and heartfelt cameo with host Jimmy Fallon. "Macca" was the "surprise" guest during Fallon's opening monologue song, which was to feature Fallon duetting with his impersonations of David Bowie, Bob Dylan, and McCartney. The pair eventually ended up performing a straight rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" to the obvious delight of the studio audience.
Saturday's show marked Paul McCartney's sixth appearance on the NBC comedy show, having last been seen on SNL on December 15th, 2012. McCartney first appeared on the show back in 1980. McCartney and SNL creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels, are longtime friends and both summer in the exclusive East Hampton, New York enclave.
50 years after hitting the American charts, Paul McCartney is a beloved and respected as any entertainer in history has ever been. He says that he understands that pop music will always go on and that part of the process is shaking things up for a new generation of kids: "You must remember that when the Beatles came out, the talk was about their long hair -- not about their music. The talk was about their clothes and the talk was about how different and what a shock they had been compared to what had gone before. 'Cause now, you look at the hair, it doesn't look long at all. Um. . . It's just image -- it always was and always will be. And in showbiz, there's always someone who wants to do the last guy."
