Boston Releases First Christmas Track Online
Believe it or not, Boston has just released its first Christmas song via iTunes. Leader Tom Scholz led the band through a daring version of "God Rest Ye Metal Gentlemen," with the help of current bandmates Kimberley Dahme on bass and lead vocal, Gary Pihl and Scholz on vocals and guitars, along with Tom Hambridge on drums. In the press release announcing the new track, Scholz explained, "This was my chance to Boston-ize one of my favorite Christmas carols. I had so much fun with this one, I think I'll have to try a few more."
Out now is Boston's first new album in a over a decade, the just-released Love, Life, And Hope collection. Boston's last set, 2002's Corporate America, peaked at a disappointing Number 42 on the Billboard 200 album charts.
Tom Scholz admitted to us that the lines between being at home and being at work are extremely blurry, to say the least: "I basically live over the recording studio, and as my wife would be the first to tell you, the studio has kind of over taken the house. So, for instance, what would pass as the living room is actually the acoustical piano recording area (laughs). And the spare room is the Leslie (speaker) enclosure and the guitar speaker cabinet area. It's actually very hard to for me to escape from the recording environment, because I'm kind of surrounded by it."
Although no dates have been announced, Boston will be hitting the road sometime in 2014.
