Genesis' Mike Ruthford Publishing Memoir, Peter Gabriel Doesn't Rule Out Reunion
Saturday, December 14, 2013
Genesis co-founder and Mike + The Mechanics leader Mike Rutherford will publish his autobiography, The Living Years, on January 23rd in Britain and February 20th here in the States. Vintage Vinyl News reported that the book -- which is the first memoir from any member of the band -- "takes readers from the beginnings of Genesis at the Charterhouse school through to the founding of Mike + The Mechanics and the 2007 Genesis reunion tour, including 'the drink, the drugs, the arguments and the excess.'"
Released in conjunction with the book's UK release will be releases of both Mike + the Mechanics' The Singles: 1985-2014 and the 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of The Living Years album.
Mike Rutherford tells us that for the most part, Genesis has always been able to get along because they knew each other almost from before they were even musicians: "Because we grew up together, and it's hard to have egos when you saw these guys wearing short trousers. It was always about music and never about money. So many bands have fallouts about money.
And I can't think of one row we had about money. In fact there was never a row about money. Music, yes, other stuff. But that's healthy. I think the financial side has never been a part of our ambition. It was kind of a bi-product."
