Surviving Doors To Pay Tribute To Jim Morrison & Ray Manzarek In LA
Formerly estranged Doors bandmates John Densmore and Robby Krieger will join forces next month to pay tribute to the band's late co-founders, Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek, according to Vintage Vinyl News. The pair will appear on December 5th at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, in commemoration of what would have been Jim Morrison's 70th birthday on December 8th and the passing earlier this year of Ray Manzarek. Manzarek died on May 20th, 2013 at age 74 following a long battle with bile duct cancer. Morrison died on July 3rd, 1971 of a "heart attack induced by respiratory problems" while in Paris at age 27.
Densmore and Krieger will be on hand at the Museum for a showing of the band's recent documentary Mr. Mojo Risin': The Story Of L.A. Woman, followed by a chat about the band's music and career.
John Densmore told us that from the beginning to the end of the band, the Doors had a chemistry unparalleled: "Ray and I were completely synchronistic in our musical sensibilities. We just. . . intuitive stuff together and backed up Robby's soaring solos and Jim's vocal and. . . we were blessed. We gotta remember that was the muse coming in. Y'know, she just visits when she wants to. Yeah, even with Jim's self destruction, every time we made an album, when we were behind closed doors, there was a sacredness to the four of us."
