Joan Jett Booted Off Thanksgiving Day Float
Joan Jett will still be performing during Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade -- just not on the float representing South Dakota. Vintage Vinyl News reported that Jett, who is an avid PETA supporter, came under fire from the South Dakota Cattlemen's Association with representative Jodie Anderson telling television station KEVN, that the group wanted no part of Jett representing them or their state, saying, "Of course, when we learned that about Miss Jett, we were rightly concerned about her representing South Dakota and a state that is so heavily reliant on agriculture and livestock production to drive our economy."
Jett fired back, issuing a statement, saying: "I've decided to switch from South Dakota to another float because people's political agendas were getting in the way of what should be a purely entertainment driven event. I will remain focused on entertaining the millions of people watching, who will be celebrating a great American tradition."
There's been no word who will replace Jett on the South Dakota float -- or what float fans can expect to see her on come Thanksgiving.
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts are back with their first new studio album in seven years. The new set, called Unvarnished, is being hailed by fans and critics alike as a return to form for Jett, who hasn't released a new album since 2006's Sinner collection. Jett told us that after waiting so long to record and release a new album, she and the band are in no rush to pump out another one: "With a lot of bands they have pressure from the record companies to get things out. We're our own record company, so nobody can put pressure on me but me, and it's an internal gut thing. Y'know, it's like, I don't feel like I gotta hurry and put another record out -- I'm really proud of this one! I wanna go out and tour it. I'd like to put a bunch of singles out. We really like to work our records."
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will next perform on January 11th in West Wendover, Nevada at the Peppermill Casino.
