Boston's Tom Schultz Happy Making Music In A Vacuum
Boston's resident genius -- songwriter, guitarist, producer -- Tom Scholz, is more than happy to create the band's music with zero outside influences. Boston's sixth album since 1976, called, Love , Life, And Hope, is due out on December 3rd. The upcoming set marks the band's first collection in over a decade -- and the first to be released since the 2007 suicide of beloved frontman, Brad Delp.
Scholz credits the blockbuster success of Boston's 1976 self-titled debut for being the reason he cut himself off from any contemporary influences in the writing or recording of the band's music: "I had stopped doing anything with other people, I had started working completely alone, and just doing music the way I liked it. And using my imagination, letting it run wild and doing whatever I thought sounded good. So that is what I did, and I never expected it to go anywhere, I never expected to get a deal -- or for anybody else to like it. So, when all of that happened, I said, 'Well, I'm sticking with it.' And the first album was made exactly the same way and I'm still doing it the same way today."
