Black Oak Arkansas Showcase The Past And Present On New Album
Black Oak Arkansas is back with their new album, Back Thar N' Over Yonder. The collection features 10 recently uncovered tracks recorded back in 1973 with legendary producer Tom Dowd -- along with five all new 2013 originals.

Highlights on the set come from both sets of sessions -- including a 2013 cover of Bob Dylan's " I Shall Be Released " and a blistering 1973 take on the Rolling Stones' " (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. " Also featured is a remastered version of the band's signature tune, the Top 25 hit " Jim Dandy, " featuring the original live studio vocal.
Frontman Jim " Dandy " Mangrum revealed to us that the band came about recording their beloved hit " Jim Dandy " at the direct request of none other than Elvis Presley: " George Klein is a mutual friend, okay? And George, he told me that Elvis had talked to me and it was gonna be a coupla hours -- and it was exactly two hours on the phone -- But, I said, 'Is it somethin' I've done?' 'Cause he paid attention to a lot of groups from back home around Memphis -- and Black Oak's only 69 miles from (the) Memphis Bridge. And I said, 'Did I do somethin'? Am I in trouble? Did I do somethin'?' (He said) 'No, It's somethin' that you haven't done.' I'm thinking, 'What the hell can that be?' When he called me to tell me about it and he asked me to do the song, I said, 'Sure, I'll do it -- you don't say 'no' to the King of Rock n' Roll -- how corny, what'd I say that for?' He said, 'Y'know, rock n' roll is created by a disc jockey for his own pocket book. I play rhythm & blues, gospel and country. There ain't but one King -- and I ain't him.' "
