The Paul Simon and Sting joint tour will kick off on February 8th in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center, and wind down five weeks later on March 16th at Orlando, Florida's Amway Center. Along the way on the 18-city trek, the pair will make stops in Colorado; California; Washington, Vancouver; Saint Paul; Chicago; Auburn Hills; Montreal and Toronto, Canada; New York; Pennsylvania; and Washington, DC.
Sting says that he's finally come to terms with the fact that being a touring musician has little to do with the side of him that's an active songwriter. He admitted to us that he just can't seem to compose while on the road: " I used to try and I used to get very frustrated and worried that the music left me. But I need to -- I need to be in one place and I need to start thinking. Touring is just the opposite. Touring's like sport. "
Paul Simon, who's no stranger to playing both to arenas and massive festival crowds, explained that ultimately, performing in theaters is a preferable way to connect his music with his audience: " If I am standing here and singing with the band behind me, and this is how close I am to the audience, I am going to have visual contact with the audience and there's going to be a feeling of interaction. But if the audience is 40 feet back and they can see me on a screen over here, it's harder to actually have a real feeling of interaction, because of the physical separation. "
