John Mellencamp Collected Works Box Set Coming In December
Coming on December 10th is the new box set, John Mellencamp 1978 - 2012. The collection consists of John Mellencamp's 19 albums originally released over the past 35 years. The CD box collects -- for the first time -- all the albums Mellencamp recorded as John Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp and John Mellencamp for Polygram, Universal, Sony, and most recently, Concord-affiliated labels. The package totals a whopping of 223 tracks and includes every one of Mellencamp's 30 Billboard Hot 100 singles, as well as bonus tracks concluding 12 of the albums, sourced from the 2005 re-mastered releases.
Although he's been fully involved in the remastering and compilation of his past reissues, Mellencamp admitted it's not his favorite thing to do: "My rear view mirror in that fashion doesn't work very well. Y'know, it's already on tape and you can't really go in and take that bass part off and put a new bass part on. Y'know, so there's nothing creative about it. It's just a matter of, y'know, technology and I'm not even really that interested."
John Mellencamp admitted to us that he's realistic as to why he writes and releases new projects: "I've come to the conclusion that any record that I put out now, is really just a calling card. I don't really anticipate sellin' a bunch of 'em, because people don't buy 'em anymore! They're calling cards to let people know that I'm still writing songs, and I'm still current and I'm not an oldies act and I will never be and oldies act and there won't be any 'Happy Together' tour for John Mellencamp."
