Musicians Say Brian Wilson - Jeff Beck Tour Breaks Musical Bounderies
Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck are entering their final stretch of joint shows, with the tour wrapping on October 30th in Milwaukee with a tour-closing DVD being filmed at Riverside Theatre. The trek, which features no less than four Beach Boys on stage most nights -- Wilson, Al Jardine, David Marks, and Blondie Chaplin -- actually includes twice the amount of Beach Boys as Mike Love's officially sanctioned shows using the legendary band name.
Al Jardine told us that the cross pollination of the Brian Wilson Band with Jeff Beck and his side musicians ended up making both headliners stronger: "Oh, it's great. I mean the combinations of the two forces of music give it a certain breadth and depth that I think neither of us experienced before, And Jeff is so melodic. He's got a melodic sense and keenly aware of where chord progressions are going and it helps us to marry our voices to his progressions -- If you know what I mean. Yeah, I mean, we're doing some really innovative things."
Jeff Beck understands that a joint tour between he and Brian Wilson is out of the ordinary, to say the least: "Y'know, whether it works or not, people have to decide. It is and odd combination -- no doubt about it. But, If I was me and I could walk down the road and I could see Brian Wilson and, y'know, somebody on the guitar doing two different kinds of music, I wouldn't think that was weird at all."
