Jeff Beck doesn't think that Rod Stewart is interested in committing to a reunion between the two. The pair, who recorded two seminal albums together in the late '60s as part of the Jeff Beck Group, teamed up in 1985 for the hit cover of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready." Since then, there have been a slew of start and stop attempts at a reunion. Beck is hardly sitting by the phone, and is currently out on a joint tour with legendary Beach Boys resident genius, Brian Wilson -- along with band co-founders Al Jardine and David Marks.
With 2013 marking the 45th anniversary of the Jeff Beck Group's legendary debut set, Truth, we asked Beck if there's any hope of him and Rod ramping up for one more shot at a collaboration: "Well, we should. The thing is, Rod, A) he doesn't sound the same. The timbre of his voice has changed, and therefore there's no point in trying to do Truth 2. He should've called me (laughs) 25 years ago for that, when I did 'People Get Ready' with him would've been a good time -- mid-'80s. But his manager didn't want that. I don't think he wants to lose his boy back into my evil clutches (laughs), so that never happened."
Rod Stewart has long been holding out in participating in a reunion of the Faces -- which features his Jeff Beck Group bandmate, Ron Wood. Beck revealed that Rod has been given the opportunity to begin a working collaboration with him again, but has yet to show any type of commitment: "He's got to focus. And, I've already done 11 demos for him, and he said they were in the wrong key. So that there's the commitment; he didn't even tell me which key, (laughs), y'know, to do these tracks. But I don't want be sour grapes. He prefers football and maybe that's the problem."
