John Densmore Eager To Play With Robby Krieger
John Densmore is eager to put the ugliness of his recent court battles behind him and surviving Doors bandmate, Robby Krieger. In May, Densmore published his second memoir, called The Doors: Unhinged - Jim Morrison's Legacy Goes On Trial. The book detailed Densmore's successful five-year battle against the late-Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger over their use of the band name for new projects and the Doors' music for a proposed $15 million commercial deal with Cadillac. Doors' co-founder and keyboardist Ray Manzarek died at age 74 on May 20th in Rosenheim, Germany following a long battle with bile duct cancer.
Densmore was asked by Classic Rock if Manzarek's passing had brought him closer to Krieger: "Sure, I suggested to him we go out and play some Doors songs, but not with a 'Jiminator.' We haven't played together in eons (not since the Butts Band in the '70s). I hadn't seen Robby in years. He did say: 'I don't want to talk about the book or the trial ever again.'"
Despite his issues with how his former bandmates promoted their own live acts, John Densmore told us that he'd be proud to play Doors music again with Krieger: "But y'know, in honor of the music, if there was some benefit, like, Live Aid, or whatever. Y'know, Pink Floyd came together a few years ago for somethin' and (if) we got some great singer, like, Eddie Vedder, or whoever -- that would be kinda cool. So I'm open."
We asked Robby Krieger what the status is with his relationship with Densmore: "Trying to patch that up, actually. John and I got together and did a little interview together talking about Ray talking about the Doors' app. I mean, we've actually spoken a few times after Ray's death, I think it showed us that, 'Hey, you can't hate somebody forever and better to mend fences when you can, before it's too late.'"
