New Sting Album Paints The Full Picture To 'The Last Ship'
Sting has made the full score to his upcoming Broadway musical, The Last Ship, available to fans on his upcoming studio set of the same name. The album, which is due out on September 24th, marks the former-Police leader's first new set of original music in a decade, features material originally composed for his musical of the same name. The new album -- which is technically not a soundtrack to the musical -- also features songs that did not make the show's final cut. The Last Ship is expected to open on "The Great White Way" in 2014.

The Last Ship is set in Sting's hometown of Wallsend, England -- near Newcastle -- and includes collaborations with Brian Yorkey, who wrote the musical Next To Normal and Academy Award Winner John Logan, best known for writing the Academy Award winning title song to the James Bond 007 thriller, Skyfall.

Sting told us that the new album was a way of getting all the music out there which inspired and informed the musical: "It was all written for the musical, but of course we can't use all of the material. There's too much material, so a lot will not be in the musical and I really thought it was a nice way of keeping it, because it was superfluous, but I thought it was good, so I thought we'd put it out -- along with the songs, which will be in the musical and as the kind of. . . as the raw material from which the musical is being cut. So, it's sort of almost everything I've written; although maybe five or six songs I couldn't fit on it. But, y'know, it's been my work for the last three years. The album is just all of it, really."
