Queen Musical 'We Will Rock You' Set For North American Tour
The official North American touring company of the Queen musical, We Will Rock You, will hit our shores in October for an extended 24-city, 2013-2014 run. The musical, which is celebrating its 11th year on London's West End at the Dominion Theatre, kicks off its North American tour on October 15th in Baltimore and wraps up on August 24th after a five week run at L.A.'s Ahmanson Theatre. Vintage Vinyl News posted that the jukebox music written by Queen and Ben Elton, "tells the story of a group of Bohemians in a world where everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same and all musical instruments and composing music are forbidden."
Among the Queen classics included in the show are: "Radio Ga-Ga," "I Want To Break Free," 'Somebody To Love," "Killer Queen," "Under Pressure," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Seven Seas Of Rhye," "Don't Stop Me Now," 'Another One Bites The Dust," 'Bohemian Rhapsody," and many more.
Queen drummer Roger Taylor told us that over the last two decades without Freddie Mercury, he and guitarist Brian May have come to terms with what the band accomplished with Mercury in their two decades together: "He's bigger now than he ever was. You come to a realization that that is what you really are, that is what you've done, that defines what you are -- and be content with that, and so, make it good. I'm very proud of the fact that our music is still on the radio and that Freddie is still a part of popular culture and that really makes me feel that I've done something then."
Shortly before his 1991 death, Freddie Mercury looked back at Queen's storied career that had not only spanned -- but incorporated -- prog, glam, punk, and new wave: "I must say, I didn't really think we were gonna last that long. I mean you never think about it; like, you don't get up every morning and think, 'My God, this is going to be over.' You just carry on and come up with fresh ideas and think about what to do. So, as long as we don't take it too seriously. Earlier on, we used to take it very seriously and I think it got a bit too serious. Now, I just thought to myself, we should try to inject some fun into it, y'know?"
