Quick Takes On Elton John, Carlos Santana, And The Cars
Elton John is recuperating after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix. The Associated Press reported the operation took place last week in Monaco at Princess Grace Hospital, after Elton fell ill and was forced to cancel a series of shows while being treated for "an inflamed appendix and surrounding abscess." His next scheduled appearance is set for September 2nd in London when he'll receive the prestigious Brits Icon Award.
Elton personally thanked his fans on his official website ( posting: "I would like to thank the literally thousands of people who have sent me get well cards and messages over the past two weeks. Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery. I cannot wait to see you all and thank you in person when I resume my concert schedule later this year. In the meantime, please know that I consider myself a very blessed man to have such caring and considerate fans. With all my love, Elton."
Carlos Santana shed some light on the the eagerly-awaited reunion of the surviving original members of Santana, featuring Journey co-founders Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie: "Neal Schon kept haunting me, very elegantly, and eventually I said, 'Let's call Gregg and everybody and see if we can do Santana 4,' because we stopped at number three. I've spoken to every one in the band, so hopefully it will happen." Santana went on to say that he's eying some sessions with a few other well know guitarists: "I've also sent music to Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page because I'd like to do something with them, but I haven't heard back." Cars guitarist Elliot Easton's new signature Gibson Firebird guitar debuted this week. The guitar, which was created in close association with Easton, is available in both right and left-hand models -- for southpaw's like Easton. posted: "Sporting an exclusive new Gold Mist Poly finish in high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, the Elliot Easton Firebird offers a dazzling look in the classic and ever-radical 'reverse body' Firebird design, augmented by its hot-stamped Tiki graphic on a traditional multi-ply white plastic pickguard and Elliot Easton's signature on the headstock's back."
