Brian Wilson will be joining forces with Jeff Beck for an 18-city fall tour. The dates, which mark the first time the pair has hit the road together, will also feature co-founding Beach Boys Al Jardine and David Marks. The tour launches on September 27th in Hollywood, Florida at Hard Rock Live and wraps a month later on October 27th in Akron, Ohio at E.J. Thomas Hall. Beck, Jardine, and Marks have all been in the studio with Wilson laying down tracks for his first album for Capitol Records since 2009.
Wilson talked about working with Beck in the tour's announcement: "Jeff is one of the most amazing guitarists I've ever worked with and his vibe is inspiring. I feel having Jeff Beck co-headline with me is a cool and exciting addition. We've got some new tunes we want to try out on a live crowd as well as doing some great music from our catalogues."
Jeff Beck told USA Today: "He's got a truckload of hits to play, but we'll build on that and interact. Brian will kick things off, but I'll also be given enough time to establish what I'm about. In the end, we'll mix and match. It's a complete honor to be on stage with him."
He went on to say: "I needed musical help around 1966, and (the Beach Boys') Pet Sounds was dressing on a wound for me with all its amazing melodies. I was floored by it. So were the Beatles. It was outrageously adventurous stuff for the ear. . . I'd hear that music and it would be an escape from the humdrum life."
Brian Wilson's current dates with Jardine and Marks have been a continuation of the Beach Boys' 2012 50th anniversary shows. Al Jardine remains amazed that frontman Mike Love would rather go out with his longtime side musicians under the band's name, rather than the actual living co-founders who created the classic music: "I have my own band, my little band that I have. Wonderful people, easy to work with, just a ball to be around and we go out and do privates and they love it. And we do really good work. And I understand how he feels about his band, y'know? I could see how he could develop a rapport-relationship with those people. But, why can't you embrace the 'parent' organization and do that too? I don't know, you'd have to ask him."
