The Rolling Stones' Hyde Park Live' Goes Top 20
The Rolling Stones' latest live collection, Hyde Park Live, debuted at Number 19 on the Billboard 200 album charts, and in the UK, placed two spaces higher, hitting the charts at Number 17. The tracks on Hyde Park Live were culled from the Stones' two two open-air London shows on July 6th and 13th, 2013. The album marks the band's 50th entry on the Billboard 200 charts.
Keith Richards explained what it actually feels like hitting the stage and cranking up the Rolling Stones machine: "It's this kaleidoscopic, sort of, mayhem. You only have -- it's no two takes in that game, y'know? You're on stage, you're on, you can't stop. I think what you put it down to the incredible energy of the audience. Y'know, they overwhelmingly outnumber us, but we're the focal point."
Mick Jagger feels that after playing to such enormous crowds over the Stones career, the typical 20,000-seat arenas have turned into the small scale type shows the band actually prefers -- but that doesn't mean they can't rise to the occasion and rock a tremendous audience at the drop of a hat: "Well, I think a stadium show has to be a massive show because you can't really see that much. You have to have the most massive video, you have to have lots of stuff and keep the whole thing going. I mean, to me, a very good arena show -- if it's a good arena -- is relatively intimate. So, you're able to hold the audience,
hopefully, without any kind of gimmicks. I mean, of course, it'll be fun to have a few. It's not really about that to me."
