The Band's Academy Of Music 1971 Shows Due Out This Fall
The Band's legendary performances from December 28 to December 31st, 1971 at New York City's Academy of Music have been packaged as a four CD and one DVD box set that includes 56 performances. The five-disc box set titled, Live at the Academy of Music 1971, will be out on September 17th. A two-LP version of the material was originally released in 1972 as Rock of Ages.
 
The box set, which includes a 48-page book, will feature a mix of all four nights on two CDs and the entire New Year's Eve performance on the other two CDs. Musically the CDs will also feature a new horn arrangements by Allen Toussaint and a guest appearance by Bob Dylan who joined his former backing band for a several songs during the New Year's Eve show.
 
The DVD will feature the first two CDs remastered in surround sound plus videos for "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)" and "The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show' which were recorded at the New Year's Eve show.
 
The group's Robbie Robertson described the group's sound as a musical trip. He said: "That's absolutely what you hope, you know, but you think, 'Listen, if I'm gonna make this a real honest journey, it's gotta have hills and valleys, and it's gotta take you on an emotional ride that makes you feel all kinds of things."
