Yes and Asia Members Featured On Steve Miller Tribute Band Set
Purple Pyramid recently released the latest installment in its tribute series titled, Fly Like An Eagle -- An All-Star Tribute to Steve Miller Band. The set was produced by Yes member Billy Sherwood who shared his thoughts in a released statement. He said, "Steve Miller has written so many great songs, working on this record gave me a chance to look deeper into the inner workings of the material and explore it all with so many amazing guest artists. It was an honor producing and playing on this project. I think the fans of the music will appreciate the contributions of all the artists involved."
According to ultimateclassicrock.com, the long list of artists involved with the project include: Yes' Rick Wakeman and Tony Kaye, Asia's John Wetton, Colin Moulding of XTC, Gong's Steve Hillage, Fee Waybill of the Tubes, Deep Purple's Steve Morse, Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater and guitarist Steve Stevens. The project also allegedly includes "some final recordings by guitar legend Peter Banks."
The tribute set borrows its title from Miller's biggest hit, "Fly Like An Eagle," and in the past, he's admitted that the song took a long time to perfect. He explained: "I recorded that song three separate times, when I didn't have any money, and spent, y'know, $6,000 in 1973, which is like spending $25,000 now, or something, y'know, and was not satisfied with it, and went, 'It's still not there.' And I did that until I got the recording the way I wanted it."
Fly Like An Eagle -- An All-Star Tribute to Steve Miller Band track listing includes: "Take the Money and Run," "Jet Airliner," "Living in the USA," "Abracadabra," "Swingtown," "Winter Time," "The Joker," "Jungle Love," "Space Cowboy," "Rock'n Me," and "Fly Like An Eagle."
