Quick Takes On U2, Grateful Dead, Van Morrison And Earth, Wind And Fire
U2 front man Bono was honored with France's highest honor -- The Commander of the Order Arts and Letters in Paris on Tuesday (July 16th). According to USA Today, the singer was recognized for his contribution to music and the arts as well as his humanitarian activism. Bono said about the honor, "Being an Irish Francophile, a student of many great French artists and writers... it is unspeakably special to receive an award from France for being an artist. Thank you."
The Grateful Dead is set to release a live album from their legendary 1978 Illinois State University concert. The project is called Dave's Picks Volume 7: Horton Field House, Illinois State 4/24/78. The three-disc album will feature fan favorites like "The Music Never Stopped," "Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain," "Ramble On Rose," and more. The limited-edition project will be released on August 1st.
Van Morrison and Robert Plant are headlining London's Blues Fest in October. Other performers include Bobby Womack, Van Gregory Porter, Tedeschi Trucks Band and more. Blues Fest runs from October 29th to November 1st. In other news, Van Morrison is set to release a five-disc deluxe edition of his 1969 classic Moondance. The collection will include remastered and expanded versions of the songs, and will also feature 50 unreleased tracks, including studio outtakes of favs like "Caravan, "Moondance" and "Into The Mystic." The album will be released on Warner Bros. on September 30th.
Earth, Wind & Fire is set to perform new music on HSN next month. According to VVN Music, the legendary band will perform cuts from their upcoming album Now, then and Forever on August 30th at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the HSN network. The show will air at 11pm. Now, Then and Forever is due out on September 10th.
