Rod Stwart Says Mick Jagger Is 'Technically Not As Good As Me'
Rod Stewart took time out to slam old friend Mick Jagger for both his royal honors and his vocal ability. Rod, who'll be hitting the road stateside this fall with Steve Winwood, jokingly complained to Radio Times about Jagger and Tom Jones receiving the knighthood before him, saying, "Mick doesn't pay taxes here and Tom lives in America. If my time comes, it will. If it doesn't, I'm not bothered. . . The Queen (of England) and I have one thing in common. The same hairstyle for 45 years." He then went on to slam Jagger's talent, saying, "Mick's a fine blues singer, but technically not as good as me. He's made the best of what he's got."

Rod went on to reveal that back in the day, Jagger asked permission for him and then-wife Bianca Jagger to have a sexual liaison with Rod's then-squeeze, Dee Harrington: "I've only done that sort of thing once, with a couple of oriental girls, and it's not my thing. I'm a romantic and like a one-on-one situation, candlelight and foreplay, all the old-fashioned things."

Rod Stewart, who used to catch the Stones in their pre-fame London days as a blues covers band on Eel Pie Island, told us that at the end of the day, Keith Richards and the Stones are still at the top of their game: "No one can come up with those riffs better, and no one has, as far as I'm concerned. He's the greatest. They're the greatest rock n' roll band in the world. No one's ever gonna take that away from them. I mean, they might be looking a bit ancient now but, y'know, it's what they do. They're the best at it, and good luck to 'em. No one can do it better."

Rod Stewart performs tonight (July 3rd) in Dortmund, Germany.

His next North American date will be the kickoff of his latest Las Vegas run on July 20th at The Colosseum At Caesars Palace. He'll be performing at the hotel through August 4th.
