Peter Frampton Welcomes Former Eagle Don Felder And The Byrds' Roger McGuinn At NYC Gig
Peter Frampton's "Guitar Circus Tour" hits New York City tonight (June 27th), with a sold-out appearance at the Beacon Theatre, feature two special guests -- former Eagle guitarist Don Felder and the Byrds' co-founder, the great Roger McGuinn. McGuinn told us that he's already getting psyched for his second appearance on the "Guitar Circus Tour": "I've only played one, and that was in Cleveland, and it was just a thrill to play with such a great band. And the audience was loving it and I was loving it. It was great, it was a great thing. I love what he does. He's such a great guitar player. He's really a good artist."
Roger McGuinn holds the distinction of being one of the first artists to delve into Frampton's back catalogue and cover one of his hidden gems. Fans of both the Byrds and Frampton have long taken note of McGuinn's 1977 cover of the Frampton's Camel standout, "All Night Long," which his then-manager hand picked for him: "I was ready to do a new album for Columbia, I had like a five-album contract with Columbia, and this turned out to be the last one, called Thunderbyrd. And I had some original material ready for it, but I needed some outside material to go along with it. During those sessions, he played me 'All Night Long.' And I heard 'All Night Long' and went 'Wow! That really. . .' I loved that. I loved the hook, I loved the punch of it. It rocked and it had a good melody and I could sing it, it was in my key, and was something I felt good about."
Although the two '70s guitar heroes are bound to thrill audiences, Don Felder wouldn't mind taking the collaboration with Frampton a step further: "I would love to write with him. He's really the legendary kind of, historic player. He's got such a pedigree of songs and history and his repertoire that it would be a great fit. I love Peter."
