Three INXS Biopics Currently In Production
No less than three INXS-based film projects are now underway in Australia, according to Billboard. The legendary '80s band called it quits late last year after struggling on following the 1997 suicide of charismatic frontman Michel Hutchence. The first biopic based on the band is the two-part TV mini-series, called, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story Of INXS, and tells the band's story -- warts-and-all "with full access to their archive of music, photography and stories."
INXS video director Richard Lowenstein is helming Michael, the life story of Michael Hutchence. Also in the works is Two Worlds Colliding, which is based on the book Just A Man - The Real Michael Hutchence, which was written by Hutchence's sister Tina Hutchence, and his mother Patricia Glassop. All three projects are slated to be released by year's end. There's been no word as to whether a U.S. showing is planned for any of the films.
Although most of INXS's live shows were nothing short of spectacular, guitarist-keyboardist Andrew Farriss recalled one particularly sketchy night at the Cohman Cutter in Blacktown, Australia, where things went south pretty quickly: "You'd have, like, crazy drunk people with knives trying to get through into the dressing room if they didn't like you. It was just weird, y'know? One of our, our road crew guys was walking across the car park, and this car comes up and deliberately hits him, y'know? So I walked over to the window and I say, 'Hey, listen, that's just terrible,' so they all jump out and start beating the crap out of me. That was pretty scary, 'cause I got three of these big dudes all having a go at me, and I coulda died that night."
