Quick Takes On The Eagles, Linda Rondstadt, Queen's Brian May, Steely Dan,
The Eagles have just added a second Dallas show to their upcoming itinerary. In addition to the band's October 11th concert at the American Airlines Center, the band will now also play the next night on October 12th. The Eagles kicks off its eagerly awaited 40th anniversary tour on July 6th in Louisville, Kentucky at KFC Yum! Center and wraps things up on October 24th at St. Louis, Missouri's Scottrade Center. Joining the band on the road for the first time since 1975 will be co-founding guitarist Bernie Leadon.
Today, Bernie Leadon has nothing but good feelings about his days with the band: "It's totally positive. Y'know, when I was in the band, it was a working band -- we were making an album a year, and touring a lot, and building the franchise. That was really fun to do, so it was like, y'know, doing a startup business."
Linda Ronstadt will publish her autobiography, called Simple Dreams, on September 17th via Simon And Schuster. The book will chronicle her early years in Tucson, Arizona, her '70s super-stardom, her 1980's career on Broadway, recording standards -- and eventually Mexican folk music, all leading up to her 2009 retirement from the business. The press release for the book states: "In Simple Dreams, Ronstadt reveals the eclectic and fascinating journey that led to her long-lasting success. And she describes it all in a voice as beautiful as the one that sang 'Heart Like A Wheel' -- longing, graceful, and authentic." Simple Dreams will be released in hardback, and as en eBook, along with an audio book version read by Ronstadt." (Vintage Vinyl News)
Linda Ronstadt says that she has mixed emotions on her career, from the material she's chosen to release, to even how much performing she does: "My music has always been eighty percent private music and twenty percent what I did for the public, but the public part of it just became so dominant, and I. . . it didn't need to be that way. And I, y'know, I've done it, I've been on the road. I've had an unusually long career. Most people's careers (laughing), don't last as long as mine and nobody would want to, unless you're mentally imbalanced. Nobody would want to keep going out on the road. It's a horrible. . . it's not a nice existence. There's nothing natural about it."
Queen's Brian May says that fans might see the band team up for more performances with American Idol star, Adam Lambert. Lambert, who received generally good notices for his handful of performances with the band last year, is still in the running to step into the late-Freddie Mercury's shoes, with guitarist Brian May revealing, "We are talking about doing something with Adam, probably for TV. He's an amazing artist and a very nice guy. We keep in touch and have a good friendship. . . We're not talking about touring yet, but we are talking about doing an event." (BBC)
Brian May told us that he struggled with revamping Queen as a live act following Freddie Mercury's death in 1991: "I started to see it from the outside, in a sense, y'know? It was a long grieving process, in a sense, losing Freddie, y'know, and I was resistant to doing anything -- I didn't even want to talk about Queen for such a long time. And then finally, you, you realize the love that is out there, and I thought, 'Well, yeah, if I was out there, I would like to see us go out and do the songs.'"
Steely Dan has just announced a seven-night tour-closing run at New York City's Beacon Theatre. The band's weeklong Manhattan stand will play on September 30th, October 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th. Steely Dan kicks off its 53-date North American tour on July 19th in Atlantic City, New Jersey at Ovation Hall.
