Roger Daltrey Set For One-Off Summer Gig
Roger Daltrey and his solo band have signed on to perform a one-off performance this summer. Daltrey is taking over the August 10th headlining spot at Costa Mesa, California's OC Fair at Pacific Amphitheatre, which was originally was to feature the late Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of the Doors. In the press release announcing his performance, Daltrey paid tribute to Manzarek, saying, "I was very sorry to hear of Ray's passing. I am sure he would have appreciated that the proceeds of this show will go to such a worthy cause as Teen Cancer America." Manzarek died of bile duct cancer on May 20th at age 72. It remains unclear whether Daltrey will be performing a standard hits-based show or the Who's Tommy as is advertised on the Ticketmaster site.
Daltrey and his band have one other summer gig lined up for August -- but unfortunately for fans, it's a private show. Daltrey has been announced as the National Association of Chain Drug Stores' guest performer on August 12th at Las Vegas' Sands Expo and Convention Center.
When we last caught up with Roger Daltrey, we asked him if he foresees this being his permanent solo band for the foreseeable future: "I hope to, yeah. It's a great little band, y'know, with just great energy and I've gotta keep singing, so why not?"
The Who performs tonight (June 12th) in Glasgow, Scotland.
