Sting To Release First New Material In A Decade
On September 24th, Sting will release his first new set of original music in a decade, according to The New York Times. The album, called The Last Ship, features material originally composed for his proposed Broadway musical of the same name. The set -- which is not a soundtrack to the musical -- features songs that did not make the final score. The Last Ship is set in Sting's hometown of Wallsend, England -- near Newcastle -- and includes collaborations with Brian Yorkey, who wrote the musical Next To Normal and Academy Award Winner John Logan, best known for writing the Academy Award winning title song to the James Bond 007 thriller, Skyfall.
Sting recently released his solo career spanning box set, called 25 Years. We asked him if while looking back at his solo career, he had any regrets on some of the more obscure paths his music has taken him: "No, not really. I've had a remarkably successful 25 years. Y'know, and what I've chosen to do has largely coincided with popular taste -- even though my instinct was to just do what I wanted, what interested me. Y'know, and I've always said that there we things that will not coincide with popular taste that will lead me down a path -- but I would never regret that."
